A GE Wales Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship will give you a wide-ranging experience repairing and overhauling gas turbine engines that have been fitted to aircraft that have flown all around the world. Our apprentices specialise in either mechanical, machining or electrical disciplines. Apprentices will be joining our team as we move into a new era as we have been selected to overhaul and repair the newest and soon to be the biggest, most fuel-efficient jet engine there has been, the GE9X fitted to the new Boeing 777x fleet. It is an exciting time for us all!

Do You Have What It Takes?


Essential Responsibilities

The GE Wales Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship is an exciting three-year programme that provides all the skills an individual would need to kickstart their career in aerospace.


The programme breakdown is as follows:


Year 1

  • Full-Time at Coleg y Cymoedd, working towards a L3 BTEC qualification
  • The course is tailored to GE’s needs, utilising the excellent facilities at Coleg y Cymoedd
  • Extra-curricular activities to grow key skills such as teamwork, collaboration and self-confidence


Year 2

  • One day per week at a Coleg y Cymoedd, completing their L3 BTEC
  • Four days per week working onsite in our Factory, which includes a high-profile engineering project, starting work on a L3 NVQ
  • Rotations will take the apprentice on their learning journey through the repair, overhaul and test areas of our business, incorporating Lean methodology in everything they do


Year 3

  • Full time working within the business
  • Completing a rotation programme to cover all aspects of what we do
  • Complete L3 NVQ with work-based learning and assessment


The GE Wales Training Team support and mentor our apprenticeship programme and provide soft-skills training to help our apprentices grow to fulfil their potential.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • A successful candidate would have, or be expected to achieve by the start of the apprenticeship:
  • GCSE (or equivalent) passes at gradeC, or above, in:
  • English LanguageMathematics, a Science subject and two other GCSEs
  • Overall, five GCSEs at grade Cor above. Equivalent qualifications or experience may be considered.


Desired Characteristics

  • A positive attitude, with an eagerness to learn and a flexible approach to working
  • Ability to problem solve, capable of prioritising and multi-tasking
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work effectively within diverse teams
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Any experience in STEM or industry would be advantageous

  • Tests include spatial awareness, mechanical reasoning, understanding instructions and numeracy

Face-to-Face Assessment Centre

  • Consists of an interview and a dexterity test


Offers will be made as soon as possible after the Assessment Centre, to start the apprenticeship in September 2023.

Trainee SMART Repair Technician Job

Your Role

You will be welcomed into a friendly, motivated and highly successful team working within a state-of-the-art facility.

As a Trainee SMART Repair Technician, you will focus on ensuring a quality service is delivered and consistently high customer care is achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Painting localised areas to a high quality.
  • Painting refurbished wheels.
  • Small panel repair and paint
  • Mix and match paint using computer technology to ensure the correct colour match
  • Apply primer and finishing coats using spray guns and rub down surfaces between coats
  • Touch up paintwork and apply polish to vehicles
  • Knowledge of blending paintwork essential
  • Remove masking papers before waxing and polishing finished paintwork
  • Working in a spray booth to ensure the paint is confined to specific areas.

Working hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday

Your profile

This is a fantastic opportunity if you have high attention to detail, take pride in your work, and enjoy working within a premium brand.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience within a similar role and be comfortable in a painted environment however is not essential as full training will be provided. A Full UK Driving License is required.
