JOB SUMMARY: Inspects grounds, buildings and other infrastructure to detect fire hazards in order to protect life and property on client site. Acts to enforce client safety standards and local regulations. May perform other inspection and safety duties. May perform other security services as required for the site.

Distinguishing Characteristics: Duties include essential function of safety inspection as designated by client contract. May be assigned a service grade or rank in a chain of command in conformance with contract requirements or to facilitate the delivery of service, according to business necessity.

1. Inspects interiors and exteriors of buildings, grounds, and infrastructure to detect hazardous conditions or violations of fire standards.
2. Tests and cleans equipment, such as air compressors, fire extinguishers and other fire protection devices to ensure conformance to fire and safety standards.
3. Discusses violations and unsafe conditions with site representative; makes recommendations, and provides instruction in fire safety practices.
4. As authorized, issues permits and acts to enforce site fire protection standards.
5. Prepares reports, such as inspections performed, standard violations, and recommendations for eliminating fire hazards.
6. May be called upon to perform fire-fighting duties during emergencies.
7. May train others in fire emergency response plans.
8. May investigate and gather facts to determine cause of fires and explosions.
9. May perform other inspection and safety duties as required for the site(s).
10. May perform additional security services functions as permitted under any required Security Officer license and as specified for the assigned site(s), in addition to Fire Inspector duties.
11. Carries out specific tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for assigned site(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY
Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

MINIMUM HIRING STANDARDS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a reliable means of communication (i.e., pager or phone).
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).
  • Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED. If not, must be willing to complete the GED program within six months.
  • Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D.; related experience preferred.

Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing):

Job Title: Public Safety Officer/Firefighter/Emergency Medical Responder

Position Summary

This position is under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety, the Fire Chief and/or the Shift Supervisor. This position is responsible for protection, safeguarding, safety and security of assets, property, personnel, residents and all guests at various Bent Tree properties and residences. This position is also responsible for providing primary fire protection and initial emergency medical care for all property, personnel, residents and guests at various Bent Tree properties and residences. Perform all appropriate related and unrelated duties as directed.

Description of Duties

Public Safety: The primary duties of the position include:

  • Meeting the physical requirements of the job and the ability to work in the

environmental conditions listed below to perform common public safety functions and

duties.

  • Performing security patrols by Bent Tree vehicle and/or foot.
  • Protect property from theft, embezzlement, sabotage, trespassing, fire and accidents.
  • The observation and reporting of any unlawful activity.
  • The prevention of theft or misappropriation of any goods, money or other items of

value.

  • The protection of residents, guests or property, including but not limited to

proprietary information, from harm or misappropriation.

  • The control of access to premises being protected.
  • Crowd control in public areas.
  • Investigate and take the appropriate lawful action as authorized by the Board of

Directors on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, safety and fire.

  • Neutralize situations calmly with tact and common sense.
  • Watch for safety and fire hazards and other security related situations.
  • Enforcing Bent Tree rules and regulations.
  • Provide any needed assistance to residents, employees and guests.

  • Serve as training officer to new Public Safety staff.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Bent Tree Board of Directors.

  • Obey the laws of the State of Georgia.

Fire/EMS:

  • Operate firefighting equipment, including but not limited to protective clothing, SCBA,

ladders, forcible entry equipment, hose, nozzles and medical stretchers.

  • Clean and service assigned equipment.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and repairs of apparatus and equipment; reports

conditions to supervisor and make requests for repairs as necessary.

  • Administers emergency medical care.
  • Assists in completing reports, including fire, accident, training, rescue and any other

required reports/forms.

  • Extricate victims from vehicles at accident scenes.
  • Assists in fire safety education.
  • Assist in the development of pre-fire plans.
  • Participate in training exercises.
  • Perform daily duties as assigned.
  • Assist in fire hydrant maintenance, hose testing and pump testing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age (25 for armed officers).
  • Meet all legal requirements to be able to work in the United States.
  • Must demonstrate good moral fitness and ethical standards.
  • No disqualifying criminal background or convictions.
  • Current and valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia.
  • Meet minimum requirements set by insurer to drive a company vehicle:
  • No moving traffic citations in the past 3 years
  • No at fault accidents in the past 3 years
  • Have not had driver’s licenses denied, suspended or revoked in the past 3 years
  • No driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUI) convictions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, Bent Tree and the residents, to understand and follow standard operating procedures, to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance, to write and investigate required reports, to make independent and good judgement decisions within proper policy and procedures.
  • Must be detailed oriented and have satisfactory literacy and writing, documentation, communications and interpersonal abilities.
  • Be able to work alone, responsibly and without supervision.
  • All positions require availability to work all shifts including day, swing, night, weekends and holidays. Capable of meeting the physical requirements below.
  • Security/Law enforcement experience desired and preferred.
  • Prefer a good working knowledge of security operations, safety procedures and policies.
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school equivalent.
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council.
  • If not currently certified as a firefighter, the ability to be enrolled in a NPQ 1 class within 120 days of employment.
  • Possession of medical training at the level of Emergency Medical Responder, or the ability to be enrolled in a class with 120 days of employment.
  • Have no disqualifying history of mental illness.
  • Shall submit to a pre-hire drug test at Bent Tree’s expense.
  • The ability to complete the training required by Bent Tree to be certified to carry a firearm while on duty.

Working Conditions: Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Lift, carry or push weights in the following range: 5 to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must lift light and heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
