Far-right wins in blue states threaten GOP hopes in November

When Republicans ran moderate candidates who could win over votes from both parties, 

they were successful in Democratic strongholds like Maryland and Massachusetts. 

Republicans had thought that tactic would succeed once more, with Democrats having challenges this year.

But in numerous Democratic states, like Connecticut and Maryland, Republican voters selected supporters of former President Donald Trump, increasing the GOP's odds of losing those general election contests.
